In addition to the winners in the 2015 Oscar Awards, another hot topic is about Zendaya’s dreadlocks.
Zendaya caught tons of attention as long as she showed up at the red carpet of 2015 Oscar, held last Saturday, Feb. 22. Both her beautiful white gown and super full hair resulted in her standing out from the crowd. But for E! Red carpet host Giuliana Rancic, Zendaya’s long tresses appeared to be much more attentive. Giuliana Rancic, who is the “Fashion Police” co-host, commented on this pretty singer’s Oscars red carpet hair makeover on Monday night’s Oscar edition of the show. “I feel like she smells like patchouli oil and weed,” said Rancic.
Shortly after Rancic’s ‘offensive’ comment, Zendaya dealt a vigorous counter-blow on Instagram, criticizing Rancic for her “outrageously offensive” stereotypes. “There is a fine line between what is funny and disrespectful,” “Someone said something about my hair at the Oscars that left me in awe. Not because I was relishing in rave outfit reviews, but because I was hit with ignorant slurs and pure disrespect,” Zendaya wrote on her Instagram account.
Besides, Zenyada wrote that her father, brother, best childhood friend and cousins all wore dreadlocks. To make the respond more powerful, Z also gave examples of celebrities who also wear locs, such as Ava DuVernay (director of the Oscar-nominated “Selma”), author Terry McMillan, Grammy nominated singer Ledisi, many prominent university professors and many other people of all races.
Not only Zenyada herself, a number of cyber citizens fought back against Rancic’s comment, just like the two below.
The next day after the controversial comment, Rancic apologized on Twitter, writing: “I’m sorry I offended you and others. I was referring to a bohemian chic look. Had NOTHING to do with race and NEVER would!!!”
What do you think of Zendaya’s hair makeover and outfits that night? And how do you think of Rancic’s comment?
And here is another question–Did Zendaya rock this dreadlocks totally with her natural hair or with the assistance of hair extensions?
